1-Minute Bible Love Notes: 5 Lies About God’s Character Promoted in “The Shack” – Scripture vs. Shack

TRUTH BOMBS: This is a Good, well documented article. Christians beware of this book.

Article: There are commendable things about the message of The Shack. In some areas, the author offers hope and compassion that is Biblical.

Unfortunately, author Wm Paul Young admits he isn’t comfortable with some Biblical teachings, specifically the Bible’s teaching that only those who follow Christ are saved (The Doctrine of “The Shack” Author, in His Own Words)

I would not recommend The Shack to an unbeliever or new Christian because of the book’s presentation of Universal Salvation. And I strongly urge all Christians exercise caution and discernment when reading it.

Fictional representations of God can never perfectly represent God, but the representations of Father, Son and Spirit in The Shack are in riddled with Biblical error.

The list below is not all inclusive, but I’ve listed five characteristics of The Shack’s god that warrant our attention. Scroll down to read about each point with full Scripture references and helpful resources to study these subjects further.

  1. The Shack’s god doesn’t punish people.
  2. The Shack’s god says punishment is never about destruction.
  3. The Shack’s god says he has no expectations for anyone.
  4. The Shack’s god is never disappointed in anyone.
  5. The Shack’s jesus denies his life is meant to be an example for others.

Baptist Minister Defends Aborting Her Baby: “God Helped Me Make the Best Decision” | LifeNews.com

TRUTH BOMBS: If your actions are different than your stated beliefs then you really don’t believe in the first place. If your stated beliefs and actions are antithetical to Christ’s teaching, you are not a Christian.

ARTICLE: Thousands, maybe even millions, of women sit in American churches each week, hurting silently because of a past abortion.

Abortion is tragically common even among American Christians, despite Christian teachings about the sanctity of life. In 2014, 24 percent of women who had abortions identified as Catholic, 17 percent as mainline Protestant and 13 percent as evangelical Protestant, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

For many years, Susan Chorley, a Baptist minister from Boston, Massachusetts, was one of the women who remained silent about her abortion in church. Chorley shared her story with The Daily Beast this week and urged churches to offer compassion, empathy and healing to women who have abortions.

Unfortunately, Chorley also argued that churches should accept that women’s decisions to have abortions. She never mentioned how that decision destroys the life of an innocent human being in the womb, or how Christianity teaches that killing an innocent human being is wrong.

The Baptist minister said her decision to have an abortion was “wrenching,” and it left her feeling “sad” with a sense of “loss.” Still, she justified her decision to abort her second child 12 years ago.

She wrote:

I was serving in a congregation in New England at the time I realized I was pregnant. I was far away from family and friends. I had always imagined I would have a second child and I knew that it would be a struggle on our family financially as well as add to the stress of our marriage, which was starting to fall apart. I didn’t want to bring a baby into the world that would feel it was a burden—and I prayed to God to help me make the best decision I could in a situation that seemed impossible.

Later, she added:

Faith is so much more than judging right from wrong. Faith is about how we make meaning in our lives, how we understand our God, and how we live our values. Decisions about whether and when to grow one’s family carry the deepest meaning, and religious women make this decision in conversation with God, just as we do every decision.

Chorley is correct that churches need to do a better job of reaching out to women who have had abortions, but she never acknowledges that the root of these women’s pain is the abortion itself. To prevent more pain, churches should not accept abortions. Rather, they should be doing more to help stop abortions by offering pregnant and parenting families love and support.

Abortions are not the answer. They are not good for women or their unborn children. Not only do abortions kill unborn children, they often cause mothers to suffer intense emotional and sometimes physical pain. A number of studies have linked abortion with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, drug abuse, suicidal tendencies and other psychological problems. Abortions also can have profound emotional effects on other members of the family, especially fathers and siblings of the aborted child.

Churches should be places where women and families can find healing and forgiveness when they are suffering because of an abortion. Debby Efurd, director of Post-Abortion Support for Involved Life in Dallas, Texas, explained that churches must reach out with compassion and understanding toward those who are hurting and need forgiveness.

“Understand their need for forgiveness,” Efurd wrote in 2013. “Many believe that because they knew it was wrong and did it anyway, abortion is a sin too big for God to forgive and often are unable to forgive themselves.”

10 Insane Stories That Didn’t Make It Into The Bible – Listverse

TRUTH BOMBS: Now this is the kind of fiction that Bart Ehrman would spew out. Only #5 comes from actual Church history, the rest are from gnostic heretical fiction that was written well after the life of Christ. This is another example of how the media is trying desperately to influence fundamental Christians and destroy Christianity. These gnostic heresies are spoken of allot by the early Church Fathers and condemned:

“The unbelieving say that He only seemed to suffer.” – Ignatius (c. 105, E), 1.70.

“How does anyone benefit me if he praises me, but blasphemes my Lord— not confessing that He was possessed of a body?” –  Ignatius (c. 105, E), 1.88.

“[The Gnostics] abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not confess the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ. . . . Those, therefore, who speak against this gift of God, incur death.” Ignatius (c. 105, E), 1.89.

“You may have fallen in with some [Gnostics] who are called Christians, but who do not admit this. For they venture to blaspheme the God of Abraham . . . and say there is no resurrection of the dead, and that their souls, when they die, are taken to heaven. Do not imagine that they are Christians.” – Justin Martyr (c. 160, E), 1.239.

The Early fathers also spoke of how they were attempting to corrupt the purely preserved scriptures:

“When the sacred band of apostles had in various ways completed their lives’ work, and when the [next] generation of men had passed away (to whom it had been vouchsafed to personally listen to the godlike wisdom), then did the confederacy of godless error take its rise through the treachery of false teachers. For upon seeing that none of the apostles were living any longer, they at length attempted with bare and uplifted head to oppose the preaching of the truth by preaching “knowledge falsely so called.” – Hegesippus (c. 170), 8.764.

“The Cainites were an early Gnostic sect who taught that Cain, Judas, and other ungodly persons were actually spiritual seekers who resisted the evil Creator. Others declare that Cain derived his existence from the Power above. They acknowledge that Esau, Korah, the Sodomites, and all such persons are related to themselves. . . . They maintain that Judas the traitor was thoroughly acquainted with these things. . . . They produce a fictitious history of this kind, which they call the Gospel of Judas.”(Emphasis added) – Irenaeus (c. 180, E/ W), 1.358.

Don’t be deceived Church!

ARTICLE: From the earliest days, there were stories that sneaked into the Bible as the Word of God. Along the line, though, people cut away at them, trying to work out what was written by the divine inspiration of God and what was written by a crazy person with a penchant for Jesus fan fiction.

Some of these stories are completely insane, and if they had made it into the Bible, Christianity would be a very different religion today.

10 Baby Jesus Tames Dragons

After the birth of Jesus, Herod sent men out to have the baby killed. But our Bible doesn’t go into much detail on how Jesus got away. We’re just told that Mary and Joseph hid out in Egypt for a while.

That would have changed, though, if the Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew had made it in. According to this book, Mary and Joseph tried to hide in a cave, only to find that it was full of massive, fire-breathing dragons.

That didn’t bother the one-month-old Baby Jesus, though. Jesus hopped down from his mother’s arms, walked over to the dragons, and stared them down until they “retired.” Then Infant Jesus turned to his terrified mother and said, “Do not consider me to be a little child.” Because, as it turns out, even Jesus wanted his mom to stop babying him.

9 Jesus Goes On A Killing Spree

In the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, one-year-old Jesus goes on a killing spree. The book starts with Baby Jesus playing in a pool of water and turning clay into living birds. When another kid messes up his game by splashing the water with a stick, Jesus curses the boy to be “withered like a tree” and leaves him to die.

Soon after, somebody bumps into Jesus. Since Jesus doesn’t take any nonsense, he declares, “Thou shalt not finish thy course!”—and the kid falls down dead.

The town doesn’t really care for Jesus’s murder-happy habits, and they ask Joseph to discipline his child. He tries, but Jesus doesn’t apologize, promise to change his ways, or bring anybody back to life. Instead, he curses half the town with blindness.

8 The Serpent Was Just Trying To Help

The Testimony of Truth retells the story of the Garden of Eden except that the serpent is not the Devil this time. He’s just a particularly clever animal, and God just calls him “Devil” because He’s angry.

The big change, though, comes at the end of the story. It begins with ‘But what sort is this God?” and then starts calling God out on all the weird parts of the stories, from pretending not to know where Adam was to majorly overreacting over eating a fig. The book even says that God “has shown Himself to be a malicious grudger!”

Even though it sounds like an antireligious book, it’s actually a Christian text with a uniquely complex view of God. Still, it’s easy to understand why this one isn’t in your Bible.

7 The Apostle John Talks To Bedbugs

Another book called the Acts of John follows Jesus’s disciple on his own journeys. In this book, John is capable of performing miracles, but they’re less impressive than Jesus’s.

For example, John lies down in a bed at an inn but can’t sleep because of all the bedbugs. Instead of filing a complaint with the manager, John tells the bugs, “Behave yourselves!” and makes them all leave the inn.

In the morning, the bedbugs are patiently waiting outside the door for John to let them back in. “Since ye behaved yourselves,” John tells them like a weary father trying to set his child right, “come unto your place.”

6 Saint Peter Uses A Talking Dog As A Messenger

The Acts of Peter tells the story of the disciple Peter—best known as the first Pope of the Catholic Church—who, apparently, spent most of his time fighting wizard battles.

In particular, Peter pits himself against a man named Simon Magus, a sorcerer who upsets God. Peter comes to town to confront Simon in the weirdest confrontation ever.

To prove he’s God’s servant, Peter gives a dog the power of speech and sends it to call out Simon. The dog does, but Simon is not impressed. He tells the dog, “Tell Peter that I am not within.”

The greatest part of the story is that the dog calls him out on it. “Here is a dumb animal sent unto thee which hath received a human voice,” the dog tells him, before finally just asking him, “Art thou not ashamed?”

5 Peter Casts The First Stone At A Flying Wizard

Photo credit: Is That in the Bible?

The battle between Peter and Simon gets crazier after the incident with the dog. Simon, wanting to prove that he is the true messenger of God, flies up into the sky and challenges Peter to do the same. It’s weird that Simon’s miracle works but even weirder that Peter can’t meet Simon’s challenge and fly up with him.

Instead, Peter prays to God and asks Him to make Simon fall down and “break his legs in three places.” God does, and Simon comes crashing to the ground. But it’s the cold, clinically written ending that makes it truly strange:

“Then every man cast stones at him and went away home and thenceforth believed Peter.”

4 Jesus Pulls Judas Aside And Tells Judas To Betray Him

Photo via Wikimedia

We know that the Biblical character Judas betrayed Jesus, but we don’t get much insight into why—except in The Gospel of Judas. In this Gnostic gospel, Judas isn’t some evil betrayer—he’s Jesus’s closest confidant.

Jesus tries to tell the disciples about a great generation that is yet to come, but they can’t understand the idea. So Jesus pulls Judas aside and tells him because Judas is the only one who gets it.

Jesus also tells Judas to betray Him and that it’s okay. He tells Judas that, compared to every other Christian, “You will exceed all of them.” Jesus also says that “[Judas’s] star has shone brightly” and that he has a place waiting for him in Heaven in exchange for his willingness to sell out Jesus and complete His destiny.

3 An Angel Saves A Prophet Just So He Can Die More Slowly

The Apocalypse of Stephen tells the story of the first Christian martyr, who was crucified for telling people that Jesus would return on Judgment Day. It’s a relatively normal story of early Christian persecution except an angel keeps showing up just to drag out poor Stephen’s death.

Stephen is sentenced to die by Saul, who has Stephen nailed to a cross. An angel swoops down from Heaven, heals Stephen, and throws away the cross, saving Stephen’s life. But it never occurs to the angel to get him out of there.

Saul then has seven men pour molten lead into Stephen’s mouth and nail him up again. But the angel pulls him down once more. Finally, they just hurl rocks at Stephen until he dies.

But it takes Stephen a full 10 hours to finally end his suffering. So all the angel’s work was pointless, and Stephen probably spent his last moments wishing they’d have just let him be crucified.

2 Hell Is Brutal

In the Apocalypse of Peter, Peter is taken on a guided tour through the brutal torments of Hell. Murderers spend their time getting attacked by snakes and calling out, “O God, thy judgment is just!”—which isn’t unreasonable since they seem to be getting off pretty easily compared to everyone else.

Women who have had abortions get it much worse. They spend their time drowning in a lake of the murderers’ blood while their unborn babies sit above them crying. And just for good measure, their eyes are repeatedly set on fire.

Rich people who don’t donate to charity have to roll on red-hot rocks sharper than swords. High-interest lenders sit in a pitch full of blood. And homosexuals are repeatedly taken to the top of a cliff and thrown down for all of eternity.

1 Jesus Denies Being The Son Of God

In the Gospel of Barnabas, Jesus is just a prophet who can’t stand being called the Son of God. He even yells at his disciples, “Cursed be everyone who shall insert into my sayings that I am the Son of God!”—and every one of the disciples falls down as if dead.

When he asks Peter who he is, Peter responds, “Thou art Christ, Son of God.” This makes Jesus so furious that he calls Peter “the Devil” and threaten the disciples by saying, “I have won from God a great curse against those who believe this!”

The Gospel of Barnabas never made it into the Bible and has been rejected outright by Christians. But in some Muslim communities where Jesus is viewed as just a man, it’s been called a sacred text.

Study Reveals Americans are Going to Church for the Wrong Reasons | CBN.com

TRUTHBOMBS:  “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Timothy 4:2-4 (KJV)

Many unreligious Americans are willing to go to church, but not for the reasons you would think. LifeWayResearch released a study last week that reveals unchurched people are not attracted to church for the worship set or to learn more about God. Instead they are more willing to come to a church service or event if faith is not explicit. For example, 62 percent would attend a church meeting about neighborhood safety, community service event, 51 percent, sports or exercise program, 46 percent, concert, 45 percent, or an all-inclusive neighborhood event at a church, 45 percent. “Concerns for neighborhood safety and desire to express compassion to the under-resourced seem to be the biggest potential draws for the unchurched to get connected to a church,” said Rick Richardson, professor of evangelism and leadership at Wheaton College and research fellow for the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism.”Invite unchurched people to those kinds of events, and many say they will attend,” he concluded. However, only 35 percent are interested in attending a worship service, 25 percent would attend a recovery group, and only 24 percent would attend a special seminar on a spiritual topic. And what is the best way to bring people into the church? According to LifeWay Research, a personal invite is the most effective. “When it comes to church invitations, a personal touch works better than a sales pitch,” the report says. ‘Half (51 percent) of unchurched Americans say a personal invitation from a friend or family member would be effective in getting them to visit church,”So that means the best way to get the unchurched in church is to personally invite them to a church sponsored community service event or another event that demonstrates “compassion.”

Churches Fight Iowa’s Bid to Silence Biblical Teaching on Sexuality| CBN.com

Two churches in Iowa are challenging a state law that would censor churches from expressing biblical views on sexuality and gender identity – even from the pulpit.Fort Des Moines Church of Christ filed a federal lawsuit against the Iowa Civil Rights Commission on Monday, arguing that the agency’s interpretation of the Iowa Civil Rights Act prohibits church members from making public comments that could be viewed as unwelcome to people with gender identity issues.

The lawsuit comes after the Civil Rights Commission released a brochure titled, “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity – A Public Accommodations Provider’s Guide to Iowa Law.” The publication says that churches are public accommodations and therefore generally subject to the Iowa Civil Rights Act.Cornerstone World Outreach in Sioux City also has concerns about the interpretation of the law. Church leaders are asking the commission to assure that Iowans have a right to speak from church pulpits about biblical teachings on sexuality. They have requested a declaration that churches would be free to follow their religious doctrines in how they accommodate people in restrooms at the church.

Alliance Defending Freedom, which represents Fort Des Moines Church, said the Civil Rights Commission is violating the First Amendment rights of churches.”Churches should be free to teach their religious beliefs and operate their houses of worship according to their faith without being threatened by the government,” ADF attorney Christina Holcomb said in a statement. “That is a foundational First Amendment principle.”The federal lawsuit also names the city of Des Moines as a defendant because it has enacted a similar ordinance probhibiitng discrimination by public accommodations. The case in Iowa comes at a time when national attention and debate over transgender rights have been making headlines across the country.”This is a clear case of the state violating the sanctity of the church. It should send chills down the spine of every congregation in Iowa,” Chelsey Youman, counsel for First Liberty Institute, said, which represents Cornerstone.”The State of Iowa claims it has the power to regulate what churches can teach about human sexuality and how they operate their facilities,” she said. “The government has absolutely no authority to force a church to violate its religious beliefs. This is a massive violation of the First Amendment.”

Germany: Leftist pol raped by Muslim migrants, lied to police to avoid encouraging racism

TRUTHBOMBS: Remember, the truth fears no questions!!

A young left-wing German politician has admitted she lied to police about the racial background of three men who raped her in case it triggered reprisals against refugees in her country.Selin Gören, the national spokeswoman of the left-wing youth movement Solid, was attacked by three men in January in the city of Mannheim where she works as a refugee activist. The 24-year-old was ambushed late at night in a playground where she said she was forced to perform a sex act on her attackers. After the assault she went straight to the police – but she did not tell them the ethnic make-up of the men, that they were speaking Arabic or Farsi.Selin, aware of the backlash that migrants suffered after the events in Cologne on New Year’s Eve – when hundreds of women were sexually assaulted and robbed by marauding gangs of immigrant youths – instead said she was robbed and said her attackers spoke German. Now she has told Germany’s Spiegel magazine why she lied. After her initial interview at the end of January she returned to the police 12 hours later to tell them the real story. She said a friend talked her into going back to the police with the real story because another woman had been raped in the area – an accusation later retracted by the alleged victim.Selin, who has visited refugee camps in Iraq where she was shocked at the squalor people are living in, did not want to stoke ‘more hatred against migrants ín Germany.’To help her cope she wrote an open letter to a fictional refugee and posted it on Facebook. It read in part: ‘I am really sorry that your sexist and line-crossing treatment of me could help fuel aggressive racism.‘I’m going to scream… I will not stand by and watch, and it can happen that racists and concerned citizens name you as the problem. You’re not the problem. You’re usually a wonderful human being who deserves as much as any other to be safe and free.‘I will not stand by and watch and let it happen that racists and concerned citizens name you as the problem.’She now says people must never ‘twist the truth’ even if it is politically expedient to do so…

Three suicide attacks in Saudi Arabia extend global wave of bombings and a bloody week – The Washington Post

July 5 at 11:30 AM
Suicide bombers suspected of links to the Islamic State struck for the fourth time in less than a week, targeting three locations in Saudi Arabia in an extension of what appeared to be a coordinated campaign of worldwide bombings coinciding with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The triple attacks Monday ranged across the kingdom: near a U.S. consulate in Jiddah, a mosque frequented by Shiite worshipers in an eastern district, and at a security center in one of Islam’s holiest sites, the historic city of Medina. The Saudi Interior Ministry told the state-run television station that four security guards died in the Medina attack and five were injured.

The attacks offered further evidence that in the two years since it declared the existence of its so-called caliphate, the Islamic State has developed the capacity to strike at will in diverse locations around the world.
