Churches Fight Iowa’s Bid to Silence Biblical Teaching on Sexuality| CBN.com

Two churches in Iowa are challenging a state law that would censor churches from expressing biblical views on sexuality and gender identity – even from the pulpit.Fort Des Moines Church of Christ filed a federal lawsuit against the Iowa Civil Rights Commission on Monday, arguing that the agency’s interpretation of the Iowa Civil Rights Act prohibits church members from making public comments that could be viewed as unwelcome to people with gender identity issues.

The lawsuit comes after the Civil Rights Commission released a brochure titled, “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity – A Public Accommodations Provider’s Guide to Iowa Law.” The publication says that churches are public accommodations and therefore generally subject to the Iowa Civil Rights Act.Cornerstone World Outreach in Sioux City also has concerns about the interpretation of the law. Church leaders are asking the commission to assure that Iowans have a right to speak from church pulpits about biblical teachings on sexuality. They have requested a declaration that churches would be free to follow their religious doctrines in how they accommodate people in restrooms at the church.

Alliance Defending Freedom, which represents Fort Des Moines Church, said the Civil Rights Commission is violating the First Amendment rights of churches.”Churches should be free to teach their religious beliefs and operate their houses of worship according to their faith without being threatened by the government,” ADF attorney Christina Holcomb said in a statement. “That is a foundational First Amendment principle.”The federal lawsuit also names the city of Des Moines as a defendant because it has enacted a similar ordinance probhibiitng discrimination by public accommodations. The case in Iowa comes at a time when national attention and debate over transgender rights have been making headlines across the country.”This is a clear case of the state violating the sanctity of the church. It should send chills down the spine of every congregation in Iowa,” Chelsey Youman, counsel for First Liberty Institute, said, which represents Cornerstone.”The State of Iowa claims it has the power to regulate what churches can teach about human sexuality and how they operate their facilities,” she said. “The government has absolutely no authority to force a church to violate its religious beliefs. This is a massive violation of the First Amendment.”

Germany: Leftist pol raped by Muslim migrants, lied to police to avoid encouraging racism

TRUTHBOMBS: Remember, the truth fears no questions!!

A young left-wing German politician has admitted she lied to police about the racial background of three men who raped her in case it triggered reprisals against refugees in her country.Selin Gören, the national spokeswoman of the left-wing youth movement Solid, was attacked by three men in January in the city of Mannheim where she works as a refugee activist. The 24-year-old was ambushed late at night in a playground where she said she was forced to perform a sex act on her attackers. After the assault she went straight to the police – but she did not tell them the ethnic make-up of the men, that they were speaking Arabic or Farsi.Selin, aware of the backlash that migrants suffered after the events in Cologne on New Year’s Eve – when hundreds of women were sexually assaulted and robbed by marauding gangs of immigrant youths – instead said she was robbed and said her attackers spoke German. Now she has told Germany’s Spiegel magazine why she lied. After her initial interview at the end of January she returned to the police 12 hours later to tell them the real story. She said a friend talked her into going back to the police with the real story because another woman had been raped in the area – an accusation later retracted by the alleged victim.Selin, who has visited refugee camps in Iraq where she was shocked at the squalor people are living in, did not want to stoke ‘more hatred against migrants ín Germany.’To help her cope she wrote an open letter to a fictional refugee and posted it on Facebook. It read in part: ‘I am really sorry that your sexist and line-crossing treatment of me could help fuel aggressive racism.‘I’m going to scream… I will not stand by and watch, and it can happen that racists and concerned citizens name you as the problem. You’re not the problem. You’re usually a wonderful human being who deserves as much as any other to be safe and free.‘I will not stand by and watch and let it happen that racists and concerned citizens name you as the problem.’She now says people must never ‘twist the truth’ even if it is politically expedient to do so…

Three suicide attacks in Saudi Arabia extend global wave of bombings and a bloody week – The Washington Post

July 5 at 11:30 AM
Suicide bombers suspected of links to the Islamic State struck for the fourth time in less than a week, targeting three locations in Saudi Arabia in an extension of what appeared to be a coordinated campaign of worldwide bombings coinciding with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The triple attacks Monday ranged across the kingdom: near a U.S. consulate in Jiddah, a mosque frequented by Shiite worshipers in an eastern district, and at a security center in one of Islam’s holiest sites, the historic city of Medina. The Saudi Interior Ministry told the state-run television station that four security guards died in the Medina attack and five were injured.

The attacks offered further evidence that in the two years since it declared the existence of its so-called caliphate, the Islamic State has developed the capacity to strike at will in diverse locations around the world.

If You Want the Government to Forgive Your Criminal Mistakes, Run for President – Hit & Run : Reason.com

We know today that the FBI, despite determining that Hillary Clinton had more than a hundred emails on her private server that had information that was classified at the time, and despite her publicly making claims otherwise, has decided that she should not face federal prosecution. The FBI determined that clearly seriously poor decisions were made here, describing the handling of classified information under Clinton’s administration as Secretary of State as “extremely careless.” But despite the violations of the law, the FBI determined no “intentional and willful mishandling” of classified information, and thus decided that an attempt to prosecute probably would not succeed.

Sorry, But We Won’t Rewrite the Bible for Gays and Lesbians — Charisma News

In response to my open letter to Isaac Archuleta, who describes himself as a bisexual Christian, Richard S. posted a lengthy comment on my personal Facebook page, including this statement: “The logical conclusion to your theology (gays can change and if they don’t it must be because they don’t have faith or are deceived) is extremely damaging to the souls of gay people. That was the point of Isaac’s letter. No amount of nice words will erase the damage. Only honest reconsideration of your theology will bring healing. Please don’t discount/deny the faith of your gay brothers and sisters. They have much to contribute to the church.”Of course, Richard has completely misstated what conservative Christians believe (we don’t say or believe that if gays don’t change “it must be because they don’t have faith or are deceived”), just as other parts of his comment not quoted here were also based on serious misunderstandings. But that is secondary to the bigger issue, and Richard is one of many who are telling serious Bible believers that, “Only honest reconsideration of your theology will bring healing.”He could not be more wrong.First, what Scripture says on homosexual practice is not negotiable, and no amount of new books or videos or personal stories will change that.As I explained in my book Can You Be Gay and Christian?, “no new textual, archeological, sociological, anthropological, or philological discoveries have been made in the last fifty years that would cause us to read any of these biblical texts differently. Put another way, it is not that we have gained some new insights into what the biblical text means based on the study of the Hebrew and Greek texts. Instead, people’s interaction with the LGBT community has caused them to understand the biblical text differently.”Simply stated, if not for the sexual revolution, no one would be reexamining what the Scriptures state about God’s intention for His creation. No one would be wondering if two men or two women could “marry” or if a husband could also be a wife.No one would be doubting that the Lord made men for women and women for men and that any deviation from that pattern was contrary to His design and intent. As one New Testament scholar was candid enough to admit, it was clear to him that the Bible forbade homosexual practice, but when his own daughter came out as a lesbian, he changed his opinion on the subject. That’s why I’ve often stated that there is not a single argument that can be brought from God’s Word to defend homosexual practice, but there are powerful emotional arguments that can be brought. In that context, I’m often reminded of Jesus’ words that, “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me” (Matt. 10:37).The father of a “gay Christian” activist changed churches when his home congregation rejected his son’s views on homosexuality. When asked about these words of Jesus, he commented that there were other churches he could go to, but he had only one son.I could only wince when I heard his words, so loving in one way but so destructive in another.Second, if there was something to reconsider in our theology we would gladly do it. The truth be told, as impossible as the “gay Christian” arguments struck me, I went to the Lord about them, buying the books that defended this new way of reading Scripture, reading the stories and listening to the stories of professing gay Christians, allowing my heart to be torn and my mind to be challenged. At the end of the day, as a biblical scholar, a lover of Jesus and a lover of people, it was impossible for me to accept their arguments. The Word is just too clear on this, and without some kind of emotional or social or other pressure to reconsider what Scripture states, no one would deny this.Third, those who argue that Christians agree to disagree on lots of things without denying each other’s faith fail to realize that they do not agree to disagree on behaviors that Scripture strongly condemns—unless they themselves are living in some kind of moral compromise. We’re not dealing here with a question of whether speaking in tongues is for today or whether Christians are required to tithe or whether Jesus is coming before the tribulation. We’re dealing with redefining the very meaning of marriage and claiming that a behavior that is plainly condemned in the Old and New Testaments—I’m talking about same-sex cohabitation—is now blessed by God.And while God alone is the judge of every professing Christian, be that person gay or straight, we cannot embrace as fellow brothers and sisters those who are affirming, practicing and even celebrating homosexuality. We will put our arms around everyone who struggles with same-sex attraction, loving them and embracing them and encouraging them in their walk with the Lord, whether their walk entails transformation from homosexual to heterosexual or whether it entails celibacy. But we will not and

Drones fly over Savannah River Site; spark federal scrutiny | The State

COLUMBIA, SC Reports of drones over the Savannah River Site nuclear weapons complex are drawing scrutiny from the federal government.Agents with the FBI interviewed a prominent nuclear watchdog this week about drones at the site. Meanwhile, the SRS “protective force” has confirmed several sightings of drones in June over the complex near Aiken, the U.S. Department of Energy said Thursday afternoon.

“SRS takes these reports very seriously and is coordinating with appropriate federal, state, and local authorities,’’ an Energy Department statement said.Agency spokesman Monte Volk said he did not know who was flying the drones over SRS or why they were being brought into the site’s air space. He declined further comment.Drones, remotely controlled flying machines, are used increasingly across the country for business and recreational purposes. But they also are a security concern in the face of the war on terrorism.

The Savannah River Site, a 310-square-mile complex, is filled with nuclear materials and nuclear waste. The site is heavily guarded. The Federal Aviation Administration has issued an advisory warning pilots to avoid airspace above nuclear power plants, military sites and similar areas. The FAA also recently introduced a series of rules for drones addressing how high they can fly. The rules say drones should be flown no more than 400 feet above ground or within 400 feet of a building.

Illinois Measure Would Create Advisory Council for Muslims – ABC News

TRUTHBOMBS: Islam is fundamentally flawed, therefore any advise will be flawed and destructive.

Illinois could become the first state in the U.S. with a law giving Muslim-Americans a formal voice in state government. The Chicago Tribune ( http://trib.in/28JwKq2 ) reports that a bill approved by the Legislature would create a 21-member Illinois Muslim-American Advisory Council. It’s awaiting Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s signature.

The governor’s office said he’s reviewing it.Muslim leaders said it would send a welcoming message to Muslims. The governor and legislative leaders would appoint council members.Kareem Irfan, a Chicago lawyer who led an earlier version of the council under Gov. Pat Quinn, said it would be good to have a lasting institutional body so the community is not subject to the whims of each governor.”Given all that is going on with the misinterpretation about Islam and the interests and concerns of the Muslim-American community, it’s almost obligatory on behalf of a governor of this state and all governors to have such a body,” Irfan said.

Democratic Sen. Jacqueline Collins, a co-sponsor of the bill, said she hopes the council will be the first of many efforts to ensure that the governor considers minority perspectives.Republican Rep. Barbara Wheeler voted against the bill last month. She said lawmakers shouldn’t be wasting their time on “feel-good” legislation when Illinois is approaching one year without a state budget.”It’s not an anti-Muslim thing,” Wheeler said. “It’s the duty and responsibility of the Muslim-American community to figure out how to help us understand whom our enemies are. I don’t believe it’s the state of Illinois’ responsibility to do that.”
